Open Street Maps Gets Yahoo! Imagery
Written by Chad on December 4th, 2006Doing my morning rounds through GIS related blogs and I can across this post on the OpenGeoData blog. And it looks like through the work of several Yahoo! people and OSM members, people that use OSM (Open Street Map) can now view Yahoo! aerial imagery in the app.
My thought is this, can we get Yahoo! to make the next small step and allow World Wind to also display the imagery (with the approperate copyright notices).
This still goes to make one wonder though… if Microsoft and Yahoo! can let others use the imagery outside the scope intended for without threat of loosing said imagery.. Just what kind of deal did Google ink to limit them so much in the imagery’s use? Or, wild idea, could Google just be saying this to keep the imagery away from possible competitors?
I am trying to get one of the World Wind developers to make initial contact, but he is balking and wants me to do it. As if I don;t have enough going on this week with 6 to 7 presentations going on this Friday.
