World Wind South Africa
Written by Chad on January 10th, 2007After much pain and suffering on the behalf of the few people involved. The South African Space Portal World Wind page is up and running.
This has been a long running project between the Free Earth Foundation and MadMappers to bring South Africa GIS data to the people that can use it best.
MadMappers’ aim is to offer African users an open source customable platform on which to display spatial information relative to their country. World Wind Africa servers will eventually supply a wide selection of data, ranging from topological maps to vector data, from aerial photography and very high resolution imagery to DEMs.
The current dataset includes the following:
- South Africa 50k Topo maps.
- Africa 250k Topo maps.
- South Africa
- Lesotho
- Malawi
- Mozambique
- Namibia
- Swaziland
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
- Various areas with aerial imagery.
And can be downloaded from this page.
