Galaxy Zoo: Classifying Galaxies
Written by Chad on August 9th, 2007This got mentioned on the World Wind forum and it is an interesting site. Galaxy Zoo is basically a site where you create an account and then classify galaxies into what type they are.
Your job is very simple! All you need to do is look out for the features that mark out spiral and elliptical galaxies. In fact, as you’re a human and not a computer, most galaxies should be easy to classify since they’re obviously spirals or obviously ellipticals.
Once you pass a test to see if you can correctly identify Galaxies, you are sent into the site to start identifying other Galaxies. Interesting way to kill your free time.
