Drove down to Philadelphia yesterday with my mom, drove back 50 minutes later with her new Yellow, convertible SmartCar.
I am surprised, they are a bit bigger than I thought they would be.. the leg room (with the seat all the way back) for me to fit in there, and you sit nice and high. Has a rain sensor to turn on the wipers for you... but no cruise control? How about cruise and no rain sensor instead?
I wouldn't mind having one for commuting to work, but I will wait for the diesel version.. 72MPG.

I'm definitely not in favor of big trucks or SUVs, but this looks like a deathtrap (and as I recall Jeremy Clarkson prooved that pretty well using a table).
That is why they took longer to come to the US, they had to improve the safety features. The cage is all enclosing now and has front and side air bags.
