GeoAgSys Showing Realtime Data with GL Shading

Tve, the developer of GeoAgSys has posted a screen shot and a video clip of GeoAgSys showing real-time data.

It shows a real-time frost protection network that monitors air temperature in orchards on a 1 minute interval and relays them back to growers with alarm settings, etc. Up to now they can only look at one plot of temp at a time. Soon they will be able to watch real-time... like say the last 6 hours in a loop or whatever.

Stores Tracking Customers via Mobile Phones

It seems that several shopping centers in the UK have installed a surveillance mechanism that works by monitoring the signals produced by mobile handsets and then locating the phone by triangulation – measuring the phone’s distance from three receivers.

A shopping mall could, for example, find out that 10,000 people were still in the store at 6pm, helping to make a case for longer opening hours, or that a majority of customers who visited Gap also went to Next, which could useful for marketing purposes.

While this is all good marketing and user information for shopping centers, there are a lot of people crying foul of privacy violation.  But the creators of the system say that is does not access personal information, but it does log the IMEI code of the handset, which is uniqe and technically, tired to one person so linking to a person could be possible.

I guess I wouldn't mind "too much", I can just turn my phone off.

Viewing Fires in Greece with Modis Historical Plug-In

m_k has some screen shots up of looking at the fires in Greece using the MODIS Historical Plug-In for World Wind. Between using the MODIS Plug-in and the ESA Fire Plug-In, you can watch the fires grow in size from their beginnings a few weeks ago.

Ultimate Time Killer? USGS EarthNow Viewer

I blame APB for their post and now making me do even less work in a day ;)  Anyway, the USGS has a new (to me) access point to LandSat imagery called USGS EarthNow Viewer.

This viewer plays recent passes of LandSat 5 and 7 of the US in IR and sometimes Color.  But as I just found out.. it also has Real-Time flyovers!  And I just watched it at the right time as I got a flyover overhead just now :)
