It is official now, World Wind 1.4 is now out and ready to be downloaded and used. You can get to the download page here.

Now, 1.4 is still a Windows only application and requires .Net 2.0. About May you can get your hands on the World Wind Java version.

Baring anything happening, World Wind 1.4 will be officially released on the 14th of this month. And since it is also Valentines Day in the US on that date.... you are NOT getting a kiss or flowers with it!

So.. guess it is time for me to work on new Tours and documentation now... and start alpha testing World Wind Java.

I don't think I have even really mentioned it much, but one of the first things to come to World Wind when the code base switched to .Net 2.0 was an update to the "Flags of the World" add-on.

This turned the add-on into a plug-in and animated the flags so they waved.  This plug-in also makes use of the widget code to display the information about any country you click on. I tried to get a video clip of them in action, a screen shot just doesn't do it justice, but the video keeps coming out badly.

Had some discussions last night in regards to 1.4's release.  One of the topics I brought up was the 1.3.6 release (which is world Wind with .Net 1.1) and should we still go forward with that.  The answer, for now, is 'no release'.  Too much going on keeping the .Net 2.0 straight to also worry about keeping a .Net 1.1 release right as well.

So, unless people start complaining they can't use the 1.4 release because of not being able to upgrade to .Net 2.0, we won't have a 1.3.6 release of World Wind.

Come and get the latest Release Candidate here. This version has some more bug fixes and additions.  But mainly the fixes were in the installer itself.  If nothing major comes up, 1.4 should be released next week finally.

The long used GPS Tracker plug-in will become part of the default World Wind install with 1.4 release.  This plug-in has been available to use though for almost a year and a lot of people have asked why it is not part of the World Wind install.  Well, now it is.

I have been using it for a week with my Pharos 500 GPS unit and it works quite nicely. One of the interesting features is that you can track multiple GPS sources at once.  So, if you have a team out in the field.. you could track them all.
